Baby Shower? Let’s Have A Theme

We have been talking about hosting a baby shower this week and have chatted about the importance of creating a theme.  When you have a theme, you have great direction as your theme tends to “drive” the preparation process.

Your Two Chums have hosted many baby showers and would like to share with you some particularly fun themes.

Your invitation is a lot of fun to make on the computer.  You can pull up some royalty free clip art and use that, or you can use a rubber stamp with something pertaining to your theme on it.  Sparkly embossing powder adds a wonderful touch – a certain pizzazz – to the general look.  Embossing powder can be found at Michaels or your local craft store and the directions will come with it.  You will need a “heater” to heat it up but that is not very expensive and really does create a great look.

Rubber Duckie

Those cute “rubber duckie’s”, that every child has at some point in their bath tub, create a fabulous theme.  They are so colorful and upbeat – that bright yellow with a red beak.  Your invitations could be printed on bright yellow paper and then cut out in a duck shape.  The beak could be colored red with a Sharpie or acrylic paint and a brush; the centerpieces an assortment of yellow flowers with the odd dab of bright red…perhaps red berries.  You could put a few rubber duckies around the arrangement.  A party favor?  Oh yes!  Your guests always appreciate having some little thing to take home.  How about a home made sugar cookie cut out with a duck shape cookie cutter and decorated with yellow icing?  Why not put the cookie in a cello bag and tie the guests’ names onto the bag with red and yellow ribbons?  This would then act as your guests’ place cards at the table.  A rubber duckie soap would be an adorable party favor.  It is always fun for the hostesses to get together on a gift for the new mom.   Get a baby bathtub and create a gift of bath accessories around the rubber duckie theme.  Then wrap the bathtub in cello and tie with red and yellow ribbons.

Prince or Princess

Every mother thinks her child is a little prince or princess and so this is a super theme to use at a baby shower.  Crowns denote royalty so are the perfect thing to use in this case.  You can look for royalty free clip art or order a crown stamp to use for your invitations and place cards. Your Two Chums have golden crowns that we use for centerpieces, creating floral arrangements inside the crowns.  You could use the same sugar cookie idea, using a cookie cutter shaped in a crown, for your party favor or, for that matter, what fun it would be for your guests to go home with your favorite sugar cookie recipe and a crown cookie cutter!

Hatching Egg

This new baby is about to “hatch”.  The idea of the “hatching egg” is perfect if you do not know if this baby is a boy or a girl.  Your invitation could be egg shaped – you could use clipart of a bird’s nest on your invitation or a bird’s nest or bird cage stamp.  It lends itself to serving a brunch meal, full of eggs, like our Classic Quiche.  You could use eggs as your place card as we did in our Easter post about blowing eggs and then putting each guest’s name on her egg.  Your centerpieces could be a larger bird’s nest filled with flowers and a small egg or it could be a very small nest with a small egg added to your floral arrangement.  So many different ideas!

Baby Carriage

The theme of a baby carriage is one we have used on many occasions.  If there are enough hostesses, they can get together and buy the new mom her stroller or carriage.   A fun favor for this or any “baby” theme is getting a pretty handkerchief and folding it, just like a diaper would be folded.  Pin it with a gold pin and place one at every place setting.

Rocking Horse

What little child does not love to rock, rock, rock!?  This is such a fun theme, for a boy or a girl.   A rocking horse piece of clip art or embossing powder with a rocking horse rubber stamp can be put onto a card with your guest’s name which acts as your place card.  Again, if there are enough hostesses, a rocking horse makes a wonderful gift.

We have just listed a few ideas here but, please, if there is a shower that you are preparing for and you need help with a theme, do not hesitate to send us an e-mail asking for help.  We would love to help you with some ideas.

Oh, how we love to celebrate the birth of these new little ones!  A new mom always appreciates the love and care that goes into throwing a shower and, obviously, the gifts she receives are so helpful to her starting out on her journey of motherhood.

Love, joy and abundant living ~ spread it!
