Words Of Wisdom – MLK

As the only non-President to be honored with a national holiday, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. most certainly gave us some words of wisdom which ring as true today as they did 50+ years ago as he was leading the civil rights movement. Today we share a most important quote that comes from a speech he gave when accepting the Nobel Peace Prize.

In 1964, at 35 years old, Martin Luther King, Jr. became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize. His acceptance speech in Oslo is thought by many to be among the most powerful remarks ever delivered at the event, climaxing at one point with the oft-quoted phrase “I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right temporarily defeated is stronger than evil triumphant.”

How very very true this is! Those who sought to silence Dr. King and who ultimately took his life, did not silence him at all. In fact, here we are today honoring his legacy, his words and his great love. His message, though he is gone from us, lives on and is stronger than ever. Thank you Dr. King for the reminder that love and truth and striving for the “right” is what always wins in the end.

  1. Most of what he said hasn’t been adopted by the majority of Black leaders today. It has gotten worse in relationships. It’s a shame there aren’t more leaders like MLK.

What a great leader he was and, to some people, still is!
