“Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”

We mentioned a variation of the above quote yesterday in our post as one of Fred Rogers’ questions.  Mr. Rogers was a much-loved and often-watched television show for Littles and there was an absolute purity about the production each day.  It was filled with love.  For sure …..

…. the sweetness and simplicity of this program is missed.  In fact, we feel that there is a gap in television broadcasting now that the show “Mr. Rogers” is not on the air.

Fred McFeely Rogers was born on March 20, 1928 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, 40 miles east of Pittsburgh. Rogers earned his bachelor’s degree in music composition at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida in 1951. Immediately upon graduation, he was hired by NBC television in New York as an assistant producer for The Voice of Firestone and later as floor director for The Lucky Strike Hit Parade, The Kate Smith Hour, and the NBC Opera Theatre. Rogers was married in 1952 to Joanne Byrd, a concert pianist and fellow Rollins graduate.

Your Two Chums have heard that there is a movie that will hit the screens we do not know when but it is called “You Are My Friend” and stars Tom Hanks.  Certainly, we are going to keep our eyes open for its opening!

BUT, prior to that film, there is a documentary called “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” which is due to come out in the theaters in June which takes us through scenes from the sweet show and delves into the history of this “simple yet profound program”.

So, keep watching, our dear chums, for these two releases.  They promise to be touching.  Let’s get back to the basics, love, joy and abundant living!
