The Perfect Soft Boiled Egg

Eggs are a staple of many breakfasts, but cooking them, especially soft boiling them, can be a frustration.  No one trying to cook a soft boiled egg wants a runny white or a hard yolk, yet that is what we often get.  That is until now!We recently read an article about cooking eggs (we’ve actually read many) and decided to give this suggested method a try.  The article suggested cooking your egg exactly 6 1/2 minutes.  That was the only instruction, so we put an egg in a pot of water that covered the egg and turned on the the flame and set a timer for 6 1/2 minute.  This is what we got:

Not what we were hoping for.  So we tried again.  This time we brought the water to a boil and THEN added the egg and cooked it exactly 6 1/2 minutes.  It was removed immediately from the boiling water and we ran it under cold water just long enough to be able to hold and peel it.  This time…PERFECTION!

We think if you plan to watch the Royal wedding this weekend, which will take place during the middle of the night for those of us here in the U.S. and Canada, you may need some protein for sustenance to stay awake.

So sprinkle some salt and pepper on your egg and add a bit of butter then serve it with a piece of toast and a nice cup of tea, and it may be just what you need for your middle of the night/early morning wedding watching.

A perfectly cooked soft boiled egg is the perfect addition to any breakfast, to top a special salad, to add to a boil of ramen, or to have as a high protein snack.  And it just might be the perfect royal wedding day breakfast too 🙂

A tad too done for my normal taste. I always ONLY put my egg in a roaring boiling water for 4 & 1/2 minutes. I add butter, salt & pepper and, viola: PERFECTION!
