The Perfect Bow Tie

If you visit with us fairly regularly (and of course we hope you do) you know that many, if not most, of our style posts are generally geared toward our female chums.  So today we have something for the gentlemen who visit us. Of course, if you happen to be a lady reading this, you can always use this info to help your guy tie the perfect bow tie.  Even if you don’t regularly wear any sort of tie, when it is time to dress up for a formal event, something, say that requires a dinner jacket or tuxedo, or even a nice dark suit, wearing a bowtie, properly tied, will set you apart as a gentleman and make you look and feel really sharp!  There is something very appealing about a fun bowtie that makes a man look very dashing.

Whenever either of our husbands, Dennis and Randy, turn up somewhere wearing one, they are inevitably asked 1.) “Is that a real bowtie? ” and when they answer that it is, they are asked  2.) “Did you tie it yourself?”.  Apparently, there is a mystic associated with tying bowties that scares many gentlemen away from wearing them.  But if you know what you are doing and how to do it, you can set yourself apart and make a very big style statement.  So here is a video that breaks down the process of tying the perfect bowtie and makes it simple enough for anyone to do:

Here are some on-line resources for purchasing bowties:

Hanauer Bowties
These are high end beautifully made bowties for the gentleman who appreciates exquisite quality

Tok Tok Designs

If you are new to bowties and not yet ready to make a big investment in neckwear, this might be your best bet.  These are available through Amazon at a ridiculously low price of $5.99 for a 100% silk tie.  We have not yet tried them so can’t vouch for the quality but at that price it could be worth the risk.  They have lots of designs to choose from as well.

The Bow Tie Club

Wool tartan plaid ties are always fun for Fall and Winter.  The Bow Tie Club has a nice well priced selection of these and all types of bowties made of silk and cotton as well.

Tuesday, August 28th is National Bow Tie Day.  Though it is dubbed “National” actually it is on this day that people all over the world annually don their finest bowties in celebration of this neckwear accessory.  So this may be a good time to order one for yourself, or your guy, and get to practicing tying it so that come August 28th you can tie it like a pro and look like a $1,000,000!

And speaking of looking like a million, here are some more fun pictures of my darling husband in just a few of his bowties.

(I didn’t tell him to untie his tie like the guy in the video mentioned.  He hadn’t seen the video and he didn’t know anything about this post last night when I took this photo but he undid his tie and there it was…evidence that he had on a real bowtie that he tied himself)

We just happen to be celebrating this special guy today…it’s his birthday 🙂  He makes me laugh harder than anyone and makes me smile at just the thought of him. Happy birthday my very handsome honey.  You are so very loved!

A very happy birthday to you today, Bowtie Randy. If you would only do a post on mens’ socks, CHARMER MODEL RANDY would be your best sock- hoppin’ model anywhere. His socks can be spotted way down Colorado Blvd.
BTW: Any gentleman can tell a REAL hand-tied bow tie a mile away and should never need to ask if it’s a REAL bow tie. A fake and a real one are worlds apart.
FOR YOUR INFO: The finest mens’ clothing habadashery I’ve ever known is PAUL STEWART in New York & Chicago. They have the finest selection of bow ties and long ties I’ve ever seen, as well as pocket squares, socks, braces and all mens’ clothing and accessories. Ask for Eric Glatt in the Chicago shoppe.

Again, a very joyous & blessed birthday to you today, Dr. Randy. You’re a class act from tip to toe!
