Savvy Secrets – Salad Toss

Yesterday we gave you one (really good) Savvy Secret.  What’s better than one Savvy Secret? How about one a day for a whole week!  Today’s Savvy Secret is one we have been using so long we had forgotten to even think of it as such, until a chum brought it up the other day and asked why we had never used it in one of our posts.

“It might just be my favorite cooking tips ever!” she said.  And another chum standing close by chimed in that it is her’s too.  So it’s time we shared it with all of you.

When you are making salad for a crowd, it can be a chore to find a bowl big enough to toss your salad without making a big           mess or tossing your salad so long to get all of the dressing evenly distributed that the lettuce is wilted and limp by the time you’ve finished tossing it.

Instead try this.  Dump the salad into a fresh new garbage bag.  Make sure it is the unscented kind. Pour in your dressing and then give the bag a few good shakes.  Pour the salad out into your serving bowl and voilá!  Every leaf of your greens will be perfectly coated with dressing and the lettuce will still be crisp and firm.

A good salad is a thing of beauty and a joy to eat.  Bon appétit!
