On The Side – Maple Glazed Brussel Sprouts

Even if you have never liked Brussel sprouts we think you just might like these.  And if you do like them…you will LOVE them prepared like this!  These are simple and easy to make and give your holiday dinners or buffets a delicious cheerful change of pace.  Given these a try soon.  Even your kids may ask for more 🙂

Maple Glazed Brussel Sprouts

1 lb Brussel sprouts
1/2 lb bacon
1/3 – 1/2 cup natural maple syrup
1/2 cup dried cranberries
salt and pepper

Steam Brussel sprouts just until slightly tender.  While Brussel sprouts are steaming, cut bacon into small pieces and fry until crisp.  Remove bacon from pan and drain all but about 2 tablespoons of fat.  Place steamed Brussel sprouts in the bacon fat and stir to coat.  Sprinkle with salt and pepper.  Pour maple syrup over the top and stir again to coat.  Add cranberries and cover.  Turn heat to lowest setting and leave covered until ready to serve.  (If it will be a long time before serving, turn off fire and allow to sit covered.)  Reheat 5 minutes before you are ready to serve.

When you pour into a serving bowl and taste, we feel you will be thrilled.  Adjust salt and pepper as needed.  Top with crispy bacon and serve immediately.
