JOY

Seeing the title of this post, this may not have been the JOY you were expecting. Last week we brought you a post about the beautiful and famed perfume, Chanel No.5 Today we have some very interesting info about JOY that you may not have known.

JOY is a perfume created for, and with, Jean Patou by perfumer Henri Alméras in 1929. Jean Patou was a French designer whose fashion career began in 1907 when he was working in the furs business. His career in fashion was put on hold by WWI where he served as a military captain in 1915. After the war, Patou reverted to his passion for fashion and opened a boutique under his own name. His love for women inspired him to launch a trio of fragrances in 1925, as each perfume related to women with different hair color. In 1928 he creates the first unisex fragrance and in 1930 he presented the extraordinary and timeless fragrance JOY, which became the second best-selling perfume of all time. It is considered to be one of the greatest fragrances ever created and is a landmark example of the floral genre in perfumery. It contains notes of tuberose, luscious rose, ylang-ylang blossom, aldehydes, sweet pear, green notes, jasmine, iris, sandalwood, and musk.

Renowned as “the costliest perfume in the world,” one ounce of the lavish scent contains 10,600 jasmine flowers and 28 dozen May roses. The luxurious composition has for years been coveted by women around the world. The bottle of Joy follows the principles of divine proportion, a mathematical device used by the Ancient Greeks to achieve perfect proportions in architecture.

It is said of JOY that the scent has the power to remove depression and make the wearer feel lively and joyful. So joyful in fact, in 2000 it was voted the #1 fragrance of the century surpassing what was considered the main rival for this distinction….Chanel No. 5

Scent is the most powerful factor when it comes to memory. Scent has the ability to transport us back in time to remember vividly a place or a person or an experience that was strong and meaningful.

We hope that whatever fragrance you wear, it brings you, and those you love, great “joy”. After all, life should be filled with love, joy and abundant living!

On another note but still speaking of “joy”… Today marks a day some 44 years ago that was filled with the greatest of joy for me…this is the day my beloved daughter Sara Joy was born. She has brought laughter and joy to us everyday since then and is a pure delight to me and my husband, and to her sisters, her children, her nieces and nephew, her cousins, her friends and her “other mother”… Jackie.
Today we celebrate you Sara Joy and all the “joy” you are and give to everyone who knows you! Happy birthday sweet girl…you were perfectly named. <3

Love,
Mommy (aka)
