Unorthodox

Today we have yet another TV show recommendation for you. OK we aren’t pretending to be Siskel and Ebert, but we believe this is a program you will truly enjoy.

If you know your Two Chums at all, you know we frequently enjoy and recommend programs that are historical or biographical. We love a good rendition of a true story or something based on a true story. Unorthodox is about a young Jewish girl who is a part of a very ultra orthodox sect of a New York Jewish community, one that is completely and totally separate and insulated from the outside world. This is the story of a young woman who choses to leave everything and everyone she knows to seek a life outside of the only community she has ever known. The story was based on the book of the same name, and was written by the actual young woman who lived this story. This is the autobiography of Deborah Feldman.

You may remember some time ago we did a post about this particular orthodox Hasidic sect of Jews. We have great affection and respect for them and the way of life they have chosen to live. You can read that post here.

If you are looking for an interesting and perfectly acted show, and a peek into the lives of people who, no doubt, live very differently than you do, check out Unorthodox on Netflix. We think you’ll thoroughly enjoy it as much as we did.
