Thank You Ma’am-Well Done

We close out this week of coverage of the royal Platinum Jubilee with a look back at some of our favorite moments of the celebration.

There was a wonderful rock concert with performances by Queen (the band – not Her Majesty), Duran Duran, Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, Alicia Keyes singing “This girl is on fire”, Diana Ross, and Rod Stewart with a rendition of Neil Diamond’s ever popular “Sweet Caroline”. No one seemed to enjoy the show more than the Cambridges:

The whole Royal Family was having a lovely time:

Camilla,The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Charles, Princess Anne
Mike Tindall (husband of Zara Philips the Queens granddaughter), Catherine Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge
Catherine Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Charlotte, Prince George, Prince William, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Sir Timothy Laurence, husband of Princess Anne
Top row – Prince Edwards family – Sophie, Duchess of Wessex, James, Viscount Severn, Lady Louise Windsor
Bottom row – Princess Beatrice, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi (Princess Beatrice’s husband) Princess Eugenie, Jack Brooksbank (Princess Eugenie’s husband)

On the balcony of Buckingham Palace on the opening day of the Jubilee, the Queen and her family took in the aerial display performed by the Royal Air Force in her honour flying in a formation that read 70 to mark her 70 years as Queen.

Prince William, who will himself one day sit on the throne as King, addressed the crowds in honor of his grandmother.

Prince William

And crowds there were!

One of the most iconic moments was the royal Carriage which originally carried Princess Elizabeth to her Coronation and back again as Queen Elizabeth II. It made its way through the parade route with a hologram of the then 27 year old Queen leaving her Coronation ceremony.

But as we told you yesterday, it was little Prince Louis who sometimes stole the show:

These were moments that reflect the joy and true spirit of celebration that gripped the whole country and indeed much of the world. We all seemed to need a reason to come together and share some joy and gratitude. Her Majesty released this letter from the Palace to express her appreciation:

At 96 years old Queen Elizabeth II is still exuding joy and still in charge. And as she stood on the balcony at Buckingham Palace of the final day of her Jubilee celebration, it was evident, just by her being there, that she is as determined as ever to live up to those words of commitment she made to her subjects on her 21st birthday from Cape Town, South Africa:

‘I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.’

And serve she has and continues to do. Remarkable in every sense of the word…REMARKABLE! We say along with all of Britain, Well Done! And as the lights in the night sky over Buckingham Palace proclaimed:

“Thank you Ma’am”
