Savvy Secrets For Butter

If you know anything at all about your Two Chums, you know we have an affinity for butter. Today we have some Savvy Secrets having to do with this favorite food of ours that we think you will appreciate knowing.

Here are some great hacks for ways to use butter in your cooking:

Soften butter in a jiffy – To soften butter quickly use a large cheese grater and grate the butter.  The smaller pieces will soften faster.  You can use this technique as well to produce small pieces of butter to be cut into flour for biscuits or pie crust.

Measuring butter easily – To measure butter use the markings on the side of the wrapper and pre-slice butter into tablespoons before you begin cooking.  You will have just the amount you need available while you are cooking without stopping to measure and cut

Browned butter – Simple browned butter makes a wonderful sauce for vegetables, fish, or even pasta.  As the butter melts the milk solids sink to the bottom of the pan and begin to brown.  Browned butter is also really delicious in baked goods in place of fresh butter, adding a rich nutty flavor.

Compound butters – Compound butter is made by adding fresh herbs to softened butter.  After mixing in the herbs roll it in waxed paper to forma log shape and refrigerate it until it is solid again.  Cut slices and serve on top of grilled meats or veggies in place of sauce.

Just remember EVERYTHING is better with butter!
