Favorite Things – Gold Paint

We know we gave you one of these a couple of days ago but just couldn’t resist telling you about this wonderful gold paint we came across.  If you’ve been around Two Chums for any length of time you know the Two Chums LOVE gold paint! There is just no end to its uses.  Up until now however, we have been confined to using enamel gold paint in a spray can.  It is a staple in both our homes. But the spray can has some draw backs:

1. You can only spray it which makes using it more restrictive and

2. Because it is oil based enamel, the clean up is a bit more messy as one must use paint thinner to remove it from any unwanted places.

This new gold paint “find” comes in a regular paint can and can be purchased at Target in the housewares department for $19.99.   It also comes in both silver and copper options, as well as many other lovely colors.

Because this paint is water based it can be applied with a paint brush so application is limitless (you could even paint your walls gold if you want) and the clean up is simple with some soap and water.

Here are just a couple of ways that I used it this past week.

I bought some “fake” eggs, painted them first with blue chalk paint and then used this new gold paint to “speckle” some of them and “dabble” others with a bit more gold paint.  These beauties will sit out all year on my coffee table as decoration, they aren’t just for Easter.

This is one of my favorite pair of gold flats.  They are so comfortable and go with so many things I own.  But over the past year the right shoe had become scratched  pretty badly on the toe when I tripped over some large rocks in the dark one night.  It made me so sad because the scratches, though not deep, badly discolored the shoe and were quite obvious.  In the past I had used some spray paint on another pair of gold shoes that had become worn but the paint had very quickly cracked and left the shoes very unsightly leaving me no choice but to get rid of them.  For some reason even after these were scratched I hung on to them.  Then when I found this paint and saw how easy it was to work with, I decided I had nothing to lose by trying it to repair the shoes.  To my delight it worked beautifully!  As you can see in the photo, the color immediately blended with the shoe color and completely covered the scratches and best of all it has not cracked!

My only concern is with the weekend coming and a fresh new quart of gold paint and lots of brushes laying around my house I just might get carried away and end up making my house look like the Trumps Fifth Avenue Penthouse apartment in NYC!

I’ll let you know if i get too carried away.   In the meantime, we wanted you to know about one of our new very favorite things because you might have some projects this weekend too! 🙂
