A Different Kind of Advent Calendar

We saw this great idea to help to celebrate the Holiday Season and just HAD to share!

There is nothing wrong, in fact everything right, about children having an advent calendar of some sort where they either get something out of a window or a box, or put something on a tree each day to decorate it but here is another idea that sparked our interest!

Why not have a basket into which, every day, your family places an item.  Once Advent is over (December 24), you give the basket full of wonderful items to someone who would appreciate it.  It could be to a Food Bank, it could be to a homeless person you have noticed, it could be for a child’s favorite “Auntie and Uncle” or any family member, for that matter.  Obviously, you would decide who is going to be the recipient before you start filling it and, when filling it you would have this person or these persons in mind.

On one of the days, your children could write a sweet note to the recipient(s) – something that might tug at the heart strings.  Imagine the joy of the recipient(s) going through all of the things.

Remember, whatever you do, do it with love in your heart.  Love is the only thing worth sharing!
