This Little Piggy
“Future Farmers of America” was founded by a group of young farmers back in 1928. Their mission was to prepare future generations for the challenges of feeding a growing population. They taught us that agriculture is more than planting and harvesting– it’s a science, it’s a business and it’s an art.
So today, we are still the Future Farmers of America. But, we are the Future Biologists, Future Chemists, Future Veterinarians, Future Engineers and Future Entrepreneurs of America, too.”
It just so happens that some of my extended family in central California’s San Joaquin Valley are members of this fine organization.
Hannah and Logan are raising pigs to be judged and sold later this summer at auction, and Jill is raising a lamb for the same purpose.
At last evenings award banquet, Hannah was voted next year’s President of the Livingston chapter of FFA. Part of the program at the banquet was a dessert auction to raise money for the group. My cousin Heather, (Hannah, Logan and Jill’s mother) an obviously very talented baker, made this “piggy”cake which took the prize, both as the most creative entry and the one that brought the most money at $425!
Heather’s cake was a white cake with raspberry filling and of course a chocolate ganache topping that all those little piggies were “swimming” in. The little pigs are marshmallow fondant icing that Heather made. You could really make any cake you like….(maybe our Perfect Chocolate Cake would be a good choice)….and cover the top with chocolate ganache or chocolate frosting and line the side with Kit Kat bars to look like the outside of a barrel. It is all tied up with a blue ribbon because of course they are expecting their pigs to win First Place blue ribbons after all 🙂
Both an adorable and delicious cake AND a great organization like FFA will lead to lives filled with more love, more joy and lots of sweet abundance!
