The Power of Gratitude

Did Pollyanna have it all wrong?  We know that this was a fictional children’s book that was then made into a Hollywood movie but your Two Chums feel strongly that there is an amazing message in this work that is worth hanging onto!

Pollyanna is an orphan who goes to live with her very rich Aunt Polly, for whom she is named.  Aunt Polly’s home is very different from the home Pollyanna grew up in – not only in a material way but, more importantly, Aunt Polly’s home lacked the joy that Pollyanna was used to.  Aunt Polly had a very large home with lots of servants.  The servants seemed very unhappy and did not have a good thing to say about anything.  Pollyanna’s father had been a minister and he had taught Pollyanna to always look on the good side of things.  He taught her that there was always something to be “glad about” so, when presented with something not so good, Pollyanna would always turn it around pointing out something good about the situation.  The good that she pointed out was real – she did not make it up.  She just chose to not linger on the not so good and to, instead, find something good.  She ended up bringing much joy to this household and the outlooks of everyone in it.

We feel that finding the good in any situation and being grateful for that good is a very powerful stand to take……we find that it fills our experience with light and helps others along the way.

The next time someone says to you, “Don’t be a Pollyanna” don’t listen to them.  As long as what you are saying is true and not something made up or merely wished for, stay on that path – yes, “Be a Pollyanna”!  Bring more love, more joy and more abundant living into your experience!

P.S. And if you haven’t ever seen this film, or haven’t seen it in a long time, or have children or grandchildren who haven’t seen it yet, order it on Amazon and watch it together…you’ll be ‘glad’ you did:)
