Puppies In A Jacket

pups topEveryone has had pigs in  blanket, breakfast sausages wrapped in pancakes.  This is a variation on that theme.  Little cocktail hot dogs wrapped in buttered toast.  Kids of all ages love these!Puppies in a Blanket are the first cousins of Pigs in a Blanket.   These are great as an appetizer at a casual BBQ or picnic.  OR they are the perfect lunch or dinner the kiddos.  Everybody loves foods that remind them of their childhood and happy times.  Puppies In A Jacket are just that kind of food.  They are quick and easy to make and so satisfying we think they will become one of your new family favorites.  Just one more thing that adds to an abundant life full of love, joy and many, many happy memories.

Puppies In A Jacket

There is no “recipe” per se for these, just a method for assembly.  We used cocktail hot dogs from Trader Joes’ because they are all beef and nitrate free, so in other words healthier than some mini hot dogs.  You can use any brand you like.

Simply roll out a piece of bread which you have trimmed the crusts from, then butter it and slice into  4 strips.  With the buttered side facing out, roll the strip of bread around one of the mini hot dogs and press the end to “seal” the strip. Place it seam side down on a baking sheet.  Bake at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes until golden brown and crisp.  Serve with ketchup and brown mustard for dipping.
