May Flowers

large red topiaryWe all know the saying…April showers bring May flowers.  Today we want to share with you, our chums, some flowers that not only “bloom” in May but can be yours any time and all year long:-)Recently my  daughter, Carrie, had a precious baby boy.  Her shower was themed around Valentines Day.
Showering Carrie & Jack Everything about it was perfect, right down to the tissue paper rose topiaries that were the table centerpieces.

My dear chum, Jackie, was in charge of making the topiaries and she did a fabulous job!  So we thought sharing the DIY how-to on this fun and festive craft was the perfect post for this May Day 🙂

The basic instructions and photos here are from the site katelandersevents.blogspot.com

Cut tissue paper into 4″ strips

Fold strips in half to make doubled 2″ strips.  If the edges are bent or curled don’t worry, this will actually aid in making the roses look even more realistic.

With the cut edges at the top, roll the tissue paper around your finger.

You can either staple the base together, or if you would like to make roses with stems, insert a skewer in the center of the “bloom” and wrap the base of the tissue paper and the skewer with green florist tape to create the look of a stem.  If you are making a topiary use the stapled base OR insert a toothpick in the center and wrap the base of the rose just to secure the toothpick.

Either insert the toothpicks into a floral foam ball or hot glue the stapled base of each rose to the floral foam ball.  Place roses really close together so as to avoid gaps.  Place your topiary ball on a vase, candle stick, or other base, OR add a ribbon by inserting and securing it into the top of the topiary if you choose to hang it.

Pretty May flowers all year long…now that can only make your abundant life that much more beautiful.  Happy May Day!

You ladies are so creative and inspiring! If I didn’t have short, fat fingers I could play the piano and do some of these amazing things. But, instead, I’ll just hang out with you and be uplifted, inspired, loved and filled with abundance!
