Look Who!

Need a fun and easy dessert for your Halloween get together?  We can help with that!

These fun cupcakes can be made using our favorite chocolate cake recipe The Perfect Chocolate Cake.  (Get the recipe by clicking on the link provided.)  When you make them as cupcakes instead of a layer cake, simply decrease the baking time to 12 -15 minutes.  Stick a toothpick in the center of one of the cupcakes after 12 minutes and test to see if they are done.  If the toothpick comes out “clean” remove the cupcakes from the oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes before removing them from the baking pan.  If the toothpick isn’t clean add another 2 minutes to the baking time and test again.

Let the cupcakes cool completely when they are done, another 30-45 minutes and then apply a layer of chocolate icing.  Split 2 Oreo cookies in half and use the side with the “stuff” to form the wide eyes of your owl.  Place a chocolate M&M on the white of the Oreo to complete the eyes. Use a red or orange M&M and place it sideways to form the beak of the owl.  For the ears or “horns” of the owl simply extend some icing up to look like ears OR cut in half, the Oreo with no “stuff” off and use that to form your ears.

These cup cakes are so moist they can be made a day ahead and placed in a sealed container. You can refrigerate them but we prefer not as due to all the butter in the recipe it changes the texture and makes them more dense.

These little owls are sure to be a hit! With “WHO WHO” you ask?  With EVERYONE! 🙂
