All Hail to the Red, White and Blue

Red, white and blue sangria, that is!  All over this country this weekend, grills will be lit and barbeques readied as the celebration of our independence begins.
All sorts of cookies and cakes and pies will be made to resemble the flag.  And red, white and blue decorations will be out in force….everything from flowers to table linens to bunting and of course flags.  But how about something not only pretty to look at but refreshing and delicious to boot?  Here is our nod to the 4th of July in the form of a drink everyone at your holiday gatherings will enjoy.  This is really a refreshing and delicious way to begin your 4th of July parties , so let the celebrations begin!

Red, White and Blue Sangria

1 bottle white wine (we like Moscato, but any white wine on the sweeter side will do)
2/3 cup Grand Marnier (or Triple Sec)
1/3 cup agave syrup (or simple syrup*)
2 cups ginger ale or Seven-up
1 pint raspberries
1 pint blueberries
1 white peach

(* To make simple syrup add equal parts sugar and water.  Bring to a boil over high heat and cook for about 3-5 minutes.  Remove from the heat and cool completely before using.  Simple syrup can be used to sweeten any drink without having the granules of sugar in the bottom of your glass that never seem to thoroughly dissolve.  It is great in iced tea.)

Cut up the white peach.

Place blueberries, raspberries and chunks of peach into a pitcher and add wine, Grand Marnier, and agave.  Stir to mix and refrigerate until ready to serve.  The longer it sits the better the flavors mingle and the tastier it will be.
