The Hills Are Still Alive!

lady-gaga-oscars-sound-of-music-2015-billboard-650Some things are timeless and classic… The Sound of Music is one of them 🙂Last night anyone who watched the celebration of Hollywood we call The Academy Awards got a real treat.  This year marks the 50th anniversary of The Sound of Music receiving the Oscar for the Best Picture.  In tribute to that, Lady Gaga was asked to perform a medley of songs from this icon film.

We have to admit,  we saw Lady Gaga arrive on the Red Carpet in one of her usual “getups”, so later in the show when we heard that she was coming up next and would be singing the songs from The Sound of Music we were not so sure about the idea, to put it mildly.  The somewhat controversial, often  flamboyant artist seemed a strange choice to sing the classic songs of The Sound of Music…strange that is, until she arrived on stage and began to sing!…

WHAT A VOICE!  And what a performance.  We had to admit….we were wrong…she was the perfect choice indeed.  It was a wonderful reminder to us not to pass judgement of others and who they might really be, or what they are capable of, according to how we see their appearance.

Singing just as herself, she was stunning.  Dressed on a lovely white ethereal gown, and without a costume to disguise the real person she is, she was vulnerable and absolutely radiant!  It was easy to see that even she felt a bit nervous about the idea of representing this celebrated work of Rogers and Hammerstein as she began, but as she shared the classic songs of The Sound of Music she owned it and was magnificent.  If you couple beautiful, classic music with a beautiful, classic voice, how can you get anything but The Sound of BEAUTIFUL Music!

Having the film’s original artist, Julie Andrews, to appear on stage was the icing on this glorious cake, and provided the best surprise of the evening, both to Lady Gaga, and to us, the audience.  It was a tribute filled with abundant love and  joy for everyone. A very special event filled with the sound of music  🙂

  2. Thanks for posting. I didn’t watch the Oscars and this brought bittersweet tears, as “The Sound of Music” was Momo’s(my grandmother) favorite movie. It was beautifully done. I am liking this more polished, elegant Lady Gaga.
