Tear Down The Wall

On June 12, 1987, President Ronald Reagan visited West Berlin to deliver a speech.

Standing by the Brandenburg Gate, he exhorted Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to “Tear down this wall!” At the time, the Berlin Wall was just over 25 years old. It would begin to fall in late 1989. While the president’s speech didn’t cause the fall by itself, it sure felt like a big factor at the time.

What a relief when it did fall.

Joy!
