Savvy Secrets

Here we are again with ten more “Savvy Secrets”!  We hear of these wonderful helpful hints and cannot help but want to share them. Our dear friend Nancie shared these with us.  If you have some helpful hints or some savvy secrets we would love to hear them.

1.  What a great way to hull strawberries!  A simple straw, pushed down through the strawberry and there you have it, a clean strawberry!

2.  Don’t know which cord goes with which appliance in the power strip?   Write the name of the appliance on an old bread tag and this will make your life so much easier!

3.  If you have dropped a small item and cannot find it, put an old stocking over your vacuum hose with an elastic to hold it in place, turn the vacuum on and it will pull any small item to it.

4.  Cannot get the sand off baby’s feet after a day at the beach?  Baby powder will do the trick.  Take a little container with you the next time you are going to the beach.

5.  What a fun way to make cupcakes ~ directly into an ice cream cone.  Put your cones in a baking dish, side by side.  Fill the cones about three quarters the way up with cake batter.  Cook at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes or until the top of the cupcake springs back when touched.   Pull out, let cool and have fun decorating!

6.  Keep your spray bottles tidily and out of the way by putting up a tension rod and hanging the spray bottles on the rod.

7.  Don’t know which sheets go with which pillow cases in your linen cupboard?  Put the whole set neatly folded and ironed in one of the pillow cases and you will never be confused again!

8.  WD40, sprayed on, will wipe away crayon from your TV, monitors and even the walls.

9.  Turn your muffin pan upside down, bake cookie-dough over the top and voilà – you have cookie bowls for fruit or ice-cream.  What a fun way to serve them!  Make your favorite cookie dough, roll it out and then cut circles, large enough to cover the bottom of the muffin pan.  Spray vegetable pan oil on the back of the muffin sheet before placing the dough on it.

10.  And lastly, we end with keeping your wrapping paper tidy with a short piece of wire.  Better this way than rolling around on the floor!

Love, joy and abundant living!

  2. Oh my gosh, such good tips! Love the vacuum hose one, sure beats getting down on your hands and knees. They’re all great tips, who would’ve thought a straw to hull strawberries. So simple.

    Thanks!

  3. Oh, I suppose for the last one, if you didn’t want to use wire, you could use a tension rod to hold the rolls in place. If it extended far enough.

Yes, you most certainly could, Lisa and have the bonus of not having holes in the walls! Good thinking!

I think that great French word I learned how to spell a few weeks ago says it all: VOILA!!! And I’m willing to be the taste-tester for those ice cream cone cupcakes! These are all great ideas which I hope to employ some day. But, for now, I’m trying to figure out how to sink putts on a golf course. Will the vacuum cleaner hose help me with that problem?

I am not sure about that, Dick. You will have to try it! Joan Redford has left a note for you regarding putting on her Post. Take a look.

Thanks so much for all of your support!

Those are all wonderful and useful ideas! Eager to try many of them —especially the wrapping paper organizer. Tell Dick Horner that I sank a long putt yesterday from the fringe and I know that he can do the same!

Didn’t see these when originally posted but love all these tips! So useful! Will try strawberries first but am thinking about a place I could put my wrapping paper behind a tension rod or even a pretty ribbon tacked to the wall at each end would work.

Forgot to mention – I REALLY want to try the cookie bowls! Another very cute idea for a luncheon which I have done is to bake rolls in small flower pots and have one at each place at the table. Nice for a spring themed luncheon.
