Rise And Shine – Better Bacon

Bacon All across this country as the sun peeks up over the horizon there are kitchens filled with that intoxicating aroma of sizzling bacon. But do you ever think twice about frying bacon because of the greasy mess you can end up with on your stove?  You won’t have to hesitate anymore! We have the easiest and most foolproof method for cooking bacon to perfection right here.  We don’t fry bacon….we bake our bacon!

Simply arrange the strips on a rimmed baking sheet and place them in a 450 degree oven for about 15-20 minutes.  The length of cooking time will be determined by the thickness of the bacon you are cooking and how crisp you like your bacon to be. Set your timer for 10 minutes and when it goes off, turn each strip of bacon over and continue cooking.  Check again after 5 minutes to see how it is looking.  Keep in mind that the bacon will continue to cook for a couple of minutes even after you take it out of the oven.  When it has reached the “doneness” that you prefer you are ready to indulge.

Platter of Bacon

Your two Chums enjoyed some bacon made this way over the weekend when we had a reunion brunch with our dear chum, Catherine, who now lives in Florida.  We ate and laughed and had happy hearts….and tummies….and NO greasy stove!

Your mother used to accordion pleat tinfoil to keep the bacon up from the grease in the pan. This is the way I still make bacon!

Yes you’re right that is exactly what she did and I had forgotten all about that until you just reminded me. We always ate our fair share of bacon…that I remember vividly 🙂

This is especially great when serving a lot of bacon. I have used this method when we are gathered as a family of 15 with 7 of these being grandchildren ages 9 to 16 – the three oldest are boys who might eat almost a package of bacon each. I find it helpful to put the bacon on parchment paper on top of the baking sheet, which makes it easier to slide the grease into the garbage with the parchment paper, put on a new sheet and the next load of bacon.

Another great idea Joyce. I love to picture your beautiful family all gathered together but can hardly imagine that you could have a 16 tear old grandchild or that Greg and Carrie’s youngest could already be 9!

Say, how does one get invited to one of these “chum brunches” for testing all the tasty treats? I suppose it helps to have one actually show their face around town once in awhile!! That’s a mighty fine looking brunch buffet there, dear Robin!!

Chums…this is the method I use to make bacon only I place it on a rack that fits nicely in my cookie sheet. This makes the bacon even less greasy….
