Ramping up to the Oscars!

It is hard to believe ~ it’s that time of year once again!  

In anticipation of Sunday’s Oscars, we wanted to share some Academy Awards Trivia with you!

  1.   The Hurt Locker is the lowest grossing Best Picture of all time.
  2.   The first female Best Director winner was Katherine Bigelow.
  3.   The only person to win an Oscar for both acting and writing is Emma Thompson.
  4.   Hattie McDaniel was the first African American star to win a prize for acting.
  5.   Sophia Loren was the first person to win an acting award for a non-English-language movie.
  6.   The first animated film that was nominated for Best Picture was Beauty and the Beast.
  7.   John Ford has won the most Oscars for Directing.
  8.   The person who has hosted the most Oscar shows is Bob Hope.
  9.   The last movie to “sweep” the Big Five awards (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress,                    Best Screenplay) was The Silence of the Lambs.
  10.   Marlee Matlin was the youngest person to receive the Best Actress award for Children of a Lesser God.
