May Day Is On It’s Way

Only 3 more days until May! What better way to celebrate than with a floral wreath for your hair.  In Medieval times these wreaths were called flower crowns.  They are sometimes referred to as fairy rings.  The Hawaiians call them haku leis.  We think no matter what you call them, they are charming and lovely.  And easy to make.

You can buy everything you need at Michaels or Walmart, or any craft store.  We bought everything for this crown at the 99 Cent Only store and this floral crown cost about $2.

What you need:

Silk or fabric flowers
Floral wire
Floral tape
Clippers

To make:

Cut a piece of the floral wire the size of the head it is going to sit on, plus add a couple of inches for overlap to twist the ends together.

Next, cut a piece of floral tape or green electrical tape if you prefer, about 12″.  Wrap the tape over the spot where the wire was twisted together.  Cut a flower from one of the bunches with about a 1 to 1-1/2″ stem.  Lay the stem flat against the wire and wrap the tape around the stem to cover it.
Just keep repeating this, alternating flowers as you go, and using more pieces of tape as needed.  When you finish, go back and use a bit more tape if there are areas where the flowers seem a little loose.

Monday, May 1st, or May Day as it is known, is the perfect time to wear one of these floral crowns or send your little girl to school feeling like a princess.

Don’t have a little girl to make one for? Or wouldn’t wear it yourself? Use it to decorate your door!

Don’t have time to make one or don’t feel particularly crafty?  We can help you with that too.  You can buy one on Amazon.com.  If you order it today and you have Amazon Prime, you will have it by tomorrow and the cost is about $7 – $8.  Just click on the names of each wreath to be linked to the site.  Here are some examples:

Making or buying beautiful accessories can show love and bring you great joy.  Enjoying every reason on any day to celebrate life, makes for some very abundant living indeed 🙂
