Is The Game Playing Your Kid?

Joe's BookAre you, and/or your children using your smart phone, iPad, iPod, Kindle, or computer for recreation and playing games? Are you sure it is you or your children who are playing the game and not the other way around?   There is a new book out today that we think everyone could benefit from reading:-)

When it comes to modern technology there is a time and place for it.  But all too often what was meant to be a convenience and a beneficial tool to make our lives easier, more informed, and more pleasurable, ends up consuming more of our time, or our children’s time, than we are comfortable admitting.

We aren’t sure what the boundaries should be or how to enforce them.  We want to be responsible and teach our children to be responsible as well, but what is the “responsible” thing to do when it comes to using technology for recreational purposes? In a style that is easy and enjoyable to read, this book will help to answer these and many other questions and concerns that, if we haven’t yet faced, we more than likely will before long.

Still asking yourself what this book is really all about?  The back cover of the book gives a good answer to that:

“As technology advances and digital devices infiltrate our homes, it is important to monitor how our kids are using these items. But how can you decrease your kids’ over reliance on technology without stifling their freedom or making them “outsiders” among their  peers?  It can seem that there is no satisfactory solution to this dilemma, but do not despair – the assistance you need is in your hands!  In this book, Dr. Joe Dilley shares his profoundly effective three-step process that will facilitate your kids’ transition away from overuse of technology and toward more responsible and mindful use, so they unplug from devices and reconnect with your family in organic, lasting ways.”

In the interest of full disclosure, and because I am extremely proud of him, I want to tell you that the book’s author, Dr. Joe Dilley, happens to be married to my daughter Dr. Carrie Dilley.  But that is not why we are posting this info about the book today (well, I’m human and a proud mother-in-law, so maybe it is a little bit).  But mostly we think that this is important information and instruction to aid in teaching self discipline and making thoughtful and wise choices when it comes to living in the age of technology.

The book is available today in paperback, or for your Kindle, on Amazon.com. Both Jackie and I can highly recommend The Game Is Playing Your Kid.  It is a great read for anyone who has children or grandchildren, or is concerned about how to help this generation of children and adults to “unplug and reconnect in the digital age”.  Staying connected with one another can only lead to more love, more joy and so much more abundant living 🙂
