How He Has Grown!

null

It seems like yesterday that the world heard of Prince George’s arrival on the scene and look at him now!

He is certainly all grown up and, no doubt, looking forward to Father Christmas’, as Santa is called in England, arrival at Amner Hall.  Apparently, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, his Mummy and Daddy, are planning on being at Amner Hall for the upcoming holidays, just a stone’s throw away from Sandringham where William’s grandmother and the rest of the royals will be for the Christmas festivities.

According to Anna Pukas and the Daily Express, “Christmas at Sandringham is a well oiled machine!  In fact when everyone gathers in the white drawing room for tea at 4pm they are handed a schedule for their stay.

Over tea the Queen supervises the younger children as they put the finishing touches to the Christmas tree, a spruce taken from the 20,000-acre Sandringham estate. The royals open their gifts on Christmas Eve, in keeping with the German tradition introduced by Prince Albert. This happens after tea after which everyone changes into black tie and evening dress for a formal candlelit dinner. At about 10pm the group divides according to old-fashioned custom with women withdrawing for coffee, leaving the men to their port and brandy. On Christmas morning everyone attends St Mary Magdalene Church on the Sandringham estate. Christmas lunch is served at 1pm and then the family gather round the television to watch the Queen’s speech, although the Queen herself prefers to watch it quietly by herself in another room. The rest of the day is spent playing games, watching TV and gearing up for Prince Philip’s traditional Boxing Day (the day after Christmas) shoot.
THE FOOD.
It’s tradition all the way with a full English breakfast before church and turkey and all the trimmings for Christmas lunch. Supper is a buffet which the royals serve for themselves as once Christmas lunch is presented the staff get the rest of the day off.
Prince Philip likes to get involved in a Boxing Day shooting session after a day of feasts and gifts.
THE PRESENTS
What do you give the man or woman who has everything? Answer: a good laugh. The royals compete fiercely to see who comes up with the cheapest, tackiest bit of tat.Prince Harry once gave the Queen a bath hat with “Ain’t life a bitch?” on it and apparently Prince Charles is very fond of a white leather lavatory seat his sister gave him one year. Gonks and useless gadgets also go down well but however tasteless, the gifts are all beautifully laid out in the red drawing room.
THE GOODBYES
Camilla is usually the first to go as she wants to see her own son, daughter and grandchildren at her Wiltshire home before joining Prince Charles up at Birkhall, their Scottish residence. The other guests begin drifting off after the Boxing Day shoot. The Queen stays on at Sandringham, no doubt savouring the quiet.”Apparently, the Middleton family will join William, Catherine and George at Amner Hall for the holidays but probably will not be invited to Sandringham.  William, Catherine and George will nip out for a few hours to be with “Granny” and then return to their own home to be with the Middletons.A joyous time will be had by all, we have no doubt.JackieandRobinsignature

This is fascinating. Tradition is great for the holidays. The gift giving is a hoot.
