Favorite Things – The Butter Bell
Inspired by Oprah, and her former shows around the holidays in which she would reveal to her television audience some of her favorite things, we intend to do the same with you, our chums, over the next weeks leading up to Christmas and Hanukkah. We will share with you some of our “favorite things” and where you can find them should you choose to give one of them as a gift this holiday season.
Today’s favorite thing lives in my kitchen and gets used each and every day. And each and every time I use it, I am grateful for it. It is truly one of my favorite things. It’s my Butter Bell!
This handy item is actually sometimes known as a butter keeper. Basically it keeps a stick of butter soft and ready to spread, as well as keeping it fresh, for up to 30 days without refrigeration. But who am I kidding? As if a stick of butter could last 3 days let alone 30 days in my house!!!! Or in Jackie’s house for that matter 🙂
You simply fill the “bell” shaped part of the butter bell with room temperature butter. Then add water to the cylinder “crock” filling it about 1/3 of the way up. Place the “bell” inside the crock and the water will create an airtight seal that keeps your butter soft and fresh. You need only change the water about every 2-3 days. And that’s it.
No more cold hard butter that tears up your bread or pancakes when you try and spread it. This is so simple and so easy to use once you have one, you will never go back. We think it will become one of your favorite things too 🙂
