Do Angels Really Exist?

We hear about angels throughout the Bible.  From the very beginning, in Genesis, to the very end, in Revelation, there are numerous mentions of angels, more than two hundred times.  But, are they real?  Do they really exist?

Well we do believe in angels.

We do not believe that they are humans with wings flying around so that we can “see” them with our eyes but we do believe that they are messages from God that we, most certainly, hear and feel with our hearts.   In fact, in ancient Greek, the word for “messenger” is actually angelos.

In most religious thought, angels exist and they exist as God’s messengers.  Sometimes they guard and protect, as the angels protected Daniel from the lions in the lions’ den, sometimes they set people free, sometimes they wrestle with us to make us see something the way God is wanting us to see it, and sometimes they just simply come to us to comfort us, to let us know that “all is well”.

Every time the angels speak around Christmas, they say “Be not afraid!”  The angel came to Mary when she found herself pregnant having not been “with a man” to let her know that she need not be afraid and to her betrothed, Joseph, to let him know that he could trust that Mary was carrying a special child from God….that he should stand by her and be her husband.  And, of course, the shepherds were told about the birth of Jesus by angels (Luke 2:8-11):

“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”

“Well, that is all well and good for those Bible people,” you might say, “but I don’t think I ever hear angels!”   We are sure, if you think hard enough, you will realize that you have heard many angels, even in the last hour!   Any good thought like, “I must get breakfast ready for (my husband)”, or “don’t leave the kettle on until the water dries up”, or “I must put the alarm on so that I get up at the right time in the morning”, or on the freeway, “move over into the next lane right now”…..all of these, to us, are “angel messages” right from God, guarding, guiding and governing.

Yes, God’s thoughts guard, guide and govern.  That’s what they do!  And, oh golly, how grateful we are to hear them!  Your Two Chums rejoice in this and endeavor to hear them more and more because, you can rest assured that they are always coming to us these wonderful “angels” – we just have to listen!  The Bible says in Hebrews, chapter 13 in verse 2 : “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh – keep listening and, we promise, you will hear them.

Oh, Jackie and Robin, how right you are to believe in angels. No we may not see them but then again we do not “see” the air we breathe or the words of love that are spoken to us by our loved ones. We feel these things and hear them. The rush of the wind, the sigh of a child, these are wonderful things that fill our lives with the joy. love and abundance which are all around us. Our angels guide us as we move through our day; they comfort us in times of sorrow, they hold us up when we feel we cannot go on and they cheer us from the sidelines when we succeed. Sometimes if we are very lucky we may even meet a “real” angel – the person who smiles at you in the harried lineup in the grocery store or the fellow who lets you take the parking spot when you are in a hurry or the young policeman who bought shoes for the barefoot, homeless man in the USA. Look around you, listen to your inner voice and you will know they are there. Love and all the best for 2013 Sheilia
