Color, Color, Color

Thinking about sprucing your home up for the holidays?  It is never too early, as you well know!

Your Two Chums love using color in homes and do so with abandon!  If you are one who loves color, do not be scared to use it.  You just need to remember a few tips.

1.    When going for a certain color, order sample sizes of the color you think you love and also a few colors “around” it, close to it.  Be sure to put up good-sized samples in a few different places in the room.  Light effects color in a very dramatic way so put it up where the light is different.  Let it dry before choosing.  Also, remember, a color is going to look a little softer once you have the woodwork painted, furniture, floor coverings and draperies in.

2.    These days, we are noticing that, as far as finishes go, a lot of people are using a glossier paint.  Your Two Chums are all about the most satiny finish i.e. the most flat finish, for the walls and ceilings.  It gives you the color and depth you want but not the bounce!

3.    On our woodwork, we love to pump it up to a “high gloss” finish, especially when using white on the woodwork.

4.    Bathrooms, if there is a shower involved, need to be in some sort of paint that can bear the steam.  It used to be that one had to use a gloss finish but nowadays, there are lots of great, softer paints that do the trick.  The best thing to do is to ask the person at the paint store, stressing that you would like to err on the side of a flat finish.

5.    The only time we veer from the flat finish is when we are doing “faux” painting.  Then you can use all sorts of fun finishes and glazes to give you the wanted effect.

What fun to be changing a room by painting its walls!  It is an easy, very reasonable way to make a great change!
