Cleaning Your Pearls
Pearls are one of those items of jewelry that most women like, no matter what their style is. If you are fortunate enough to own pearl jewelry of any kind, you should know the right way to clean them to keep them looking their best. If, like many many women, you’ve never given much thought to cleaning your pearls, we’ve got some great info for you today. Cleaning your pearl jewelry will be quick and easy and keep your pearls in great condition so that they can be worn and enjoyed by you and then be passed down for generations to come. Here is what you need to know:
Supplies you need:
- Clean leg of pantyhose, or fine netting like bridal veil net.
- Mild shampoo. An all natural or baby shampoo would be a good choice.
- A sink or bowl and warm water.
- A soft towel
How to Clean Pearl
Place your pearl jewelry, either a necklace, bracelet or earrings into a pantyhose leg or a piece of netting, and tie the ends or use a rubber band to close the ends so pearls cannot escape.
Fill a sink or bowl with warm water and baby shampoo. Place the bag you’ve created for your pearls into the sink with warm water and baby shampoo mixture. Now gently message the pearls with the netting fabric or pantyhose, being careful not to pull on the silk thread that your pearls are strung on.
When you think that any dirt or residue on your pearls has been removed, rinse them in clear water.
Take your pearls from the “bag”, and gently absorb the moisture from your pearl jewelry with a towel and them leave them on the towel until they are completely dry before putting them away.
You may be surprised how much dirt and residue has collected on your jewelry over the years.
Be sure to wear your pearls often as wearing them keeps them more beautiful. The natural oils on your skin help to keep the pearls lustre or nacre, as it is called, from fading. But always be sure to put your pearls on last after dressing or getting ready, as things like hairspray or perfume will dull, or can even damage your pearls. If you think about it, wipe them off with a soft cloth when you take them off before you put them away.
We think wearing something as beautiful as pearls, for any occasion or with any style, can only add to your joy and sense of abundant leaving. As always, we believe the most important thing you can put on everyday is love, but it can’t hurt to wear those pearls if you have them 🙂
